Geert Lovink, media theorist, net critic and activist, studied political science at the University of Amsterdam (MA) and holds a PhD at University of Melbourne. Since January 2003 he is a postdoc fellow at the University of Queensland (Brisbane). Lovink is a member of Adilkno, the Foundation for the Advancement of Illegal Knowledge, a free association of media-related intellectuals (Agentur Bilwet auf Deutsch). He is a radio program producer and a co-founder of The Digital City. He is director and founder of the Institute of Network Cultures, which was set up in 2004 and is based within the Hogeschool of Amsterdam (HvA). From 1989 to 1994 Lovink was editor of the media/art magazine "Mediamatic". Since 1991 he has lectured media theory in Eastern Europe and participated there in conferences on independant media, the arts and new technologies.
